Reading is an important foundational skill for all students to learn. In Kindergarten students are learning to identify letters and their sounds. By the end of the school year students should be able to read all 100 Race to Read Sight Words. They should also be able to read consonant vowel consonant (CVC) words in text. In the first in second grade we spend time honing the skill of blending and fluency. Fluent readers are able to comprehend what they have read more effectively.
